Since 2020, the European Council has been engaged in discussions regarding digital transition and Artificial Intelligence (“AI”). Consequently, by April 2021, the Commission proposed the AI Act with the aim of harmonizing various regulations.

After months of deliberation, the European Council and the European Parliament reached a provisional agreement on the AI Act. The agreement addresses aspects such as systemic risks, the classification of AI systems based on their impact, substantial fines, and prohibits practices such as cognitive manipulation and the recognition of emotions in certain contexts.

This historic agreement could set a global standard for AI regulation, reflecting the European approach on the world stage. Its entry into force is scheduled two years after adoption, following its review and final approval by both the Parliament and the European Council.
