Over the past few months, Xiaomi, Huawei, Nokia, and Honor have entered into international agreements for the use of 5G technology.

This global agreement implies, among other things, a change in the treatment of patents held by the signatory companies, the prohibition of filing lawsuits for the use of 5G technology unless there is infringement or non-compliance. According to the leaders of the aforementioned companies, it also signifies their “commitment to enable a smart life in all scenarios and all channels, for all people.”

However, each case is unique. Regarding the agreement between Xiaomi and Huawei, it should be noted that, in addition to the aforementioned implications, it also serves as a resolution to several disputes related to intellectual property that both companies have had over the past few years.

These cross-licenses have enabled the acquiring companies to significantly boost the innovation of their products, thereby increasing their sales. This phenomenon is not exclusive to Huawei, Xiaomi, Honor, and Nokia, but also extends to well-known companies such as Samsung, OPPO, and Apple.
