On April 12, Colombia’s administration officially appointed María del Socorro Pimienta as the Superintendent of Industry and Commerce. This decision comes after a thorough selection process that involved reviewing over 115 resumes that met the stringent requirements established by the OECD. María del Socorro had been serving as the Interim Superintendent since January 2023, and her extensive experience within the SIC was a key factor in her ratification.
María del Socorro is a highly qualified Colombian attorney specialized in commercial law, public law, intellectual property, copyright, and new technologies. She also holds a master’s degree in international business law. With over 25 years of experience, María del Socorro has held various positions within the SIC, including serving as the Executive Director of the Trademark Office.
As Superintendent of Industry and Commerce, María del Socorro will be entrusted with overseeing the proper functioning of markets by ensuring free economic competition and protecting consumer rights. Her expertise and dedication to upholding fair competition and consumer protection make her well-equipped to take on this important role in promoting a thriving business environment in Colombia.
