On 8 January 2019, the Colombian Government enacted Law 1949 of 2019 by means of which the General Social Security Health System was partially reformed.
The new law: i) enhanced the institutional capacity of the National Health Authority (SIC) in imposing sanctions; ii) defines guidelines to mitigate negative effects of financial reorganization processes, regarding the flow of resources and credit payment for entities that are part of the health system. Among other reforms.
All reforms introduced by Law 1949 were necessary in regards to the financial problems that some entities of the Colombian health system face.
