The Delegation for Jurisdictional Matters of the Superintendency of Industry and Commerce (SIC) has taken significant actions in three consumer protection cases. In addition to settling the claims in favor of consumers, it imposed fines, jointly, of more than COP 116 million pesos to two construction firms and a store for serious breaches of the consumer protection regime.

The SIC, acting as judge, has the power to impose fines of up to 150 legal monthly minimum wages in cases of infringement of consumer rights. This action underlines the SIC’s determination to ensure strict compliance with consumer protection regulations, sending a clear message on the importance of respecting and protecting consumer rights.

The imposition of fines not only seeks to correct past damages, but also to establish a precedent for corporate responsibility in respecting regulations that safeguard consumer rights.
