The Colombian Government announced a new regime of penalties, seizure of goods, and customs procedures. On 9 June 2023, the National Tax and Customs Office published the Decree that regulates the new customs regime and seeks to expand guarantees to ensure proper processes in terms of seizure are carried out by the authorities.
Moreover, the new regulation extends procedural guarantees for customs users in terms of penalties and reduces the grounds for the seizure of goods. With these new standards, Colombian aims to provide a regulation that fulfills its functions of meeting the changing needs of foreign trade.
According to the National Tax and Customs Office, the new regime guarantees compliance with current customs regulations and lays the foundations for this regime to respond to the dynamics and innovations of foreign trade.
