One major change is the introduction of a new service for mediating criminal cases. These 2023 rules allow users to address specific criminal issues, such as copyright disputes, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.olartemoure.com\/en\/digital-economy-antitrust-laws-data-protection\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">data protection<\/a> matters, and certain economic crimes.<\/p>\n<p>Colombia&#8217;s criminal procedure system promotes open communication between victims and the accused. The goal is to enable them to express their views and, with the help of a neutral third party, find common ground to resolve their conflicts. Criminal mediation can involve compensating victims for damages or agreeing to avoid certain behaviors in the future.<\/p>\n<p>These new mediation rules apply to cases referred to them through agreements with the Attorney General&#8217;s Office or other relevant parties. Criminal mediation is advantageous, emphasizing the needs of victims and addressing compensation for harm caused by the offense.
