As a result of the recent complaints made by tourists in Cartagena regarding the excessive price increase in the city, local merchants’ incomes have decreased by 40% in comparison to last year.

In order to face off this situation, after a meeting among Cartagena’s tourism merchants, the Cartagena Tourism Agencies Association (ACATO in Spanish) was born. Its main objective is to oversee the prices offered by local vendors to the city´s visitors and ensure the compliance of applicable tourism regulations. 

In addition, other initiatives have been proposed, aiming to reduce losses among merchants, such as the “Fair Charging” (in Spanish, “Cobro Justo”), which seeks to offer some benefits to those who seize to offer fair prices for their products.
