The Peruvian Patent Office (PPO) announced that the Global Patent Prosecution Highway (Global PPH) has come into force in the country.
With Global PPH, applicants in Peru will be able to apply for accelerated prosecution, as long as one of the 25 patent offices party to the agreement has previously granted a patent over the same invention.
As stated by the PPO, the agreement represents a significant breakthrough when it comes to patent rights in Peru, as previously there were only bilateral agreements for expedited patent prosecution. Along with the press release, the PPO published a Spanish-Englishguide that will further ease understanding and access to the benefits of the agreement.
