OECD’s Trade Committee authorizes Colombia’s accession: a final approval would be given by the end of the month

21 May, 2018

On 16 May 2018, the OECD’s Trade Committee gave its approval to the Colombia’s accession in that organization.

Despite the objections made in terms of compliance with commitments in intellectual property and medicines, on 25 April 2018 -and according to Portfolio Newspaper- the Committee was satisfied with the progress made by Colombia to become OECD’s part, but asked to review the documents again before making a final decision, which was announced on the date firstly indicated.

According to the above, it is expected that the final approval for Colombia to be part of the OECD will be given on 25 May 2018, the day on which the Ministerial Committee of the organization will meet.  Done this, the entrance to the organization must be approved internally and the Congress must issue a law authorizing Colombia’s entry to the OECD.
