On 18 October 2018, negotiations to reach a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Chile and Brazil were concluded. After four rounds of negotiations, both countries made progress in closing the chapters contemplated by the FTA, only pending review of the formal and legal aspects of the Agreement.
The instrument will be a complement to the Economic Complementation Agreement 35, which regulates trade between Chile and Mercosur countries (including Brazil) in tariff matters. The non-tariff related chapters will contain, among others, Trade Facilitation and Competition Policy. In regulatory matters, the chapters on Health and Phytosanitary Measures stand out.
