Graffiti artists obtained a favorable judgment for 6.7 million dollars

23 February, 2018

On 12 February 2018, a New York Federal Judge issued a judgment in favor of 21 graffiti artists who had denounced a property owner located in Queens for erasing their works and tearing down the 5Pointz building (demolished 4 years ago to build a residential building), which since 1993 has been used by street performers as mural of their works.

The sentence, bases its ruling on the Law of Rights of Visual Artists of 1990, which prevents the intentional destruction of artworks with public recognition.  The building owner-Jerry Wolkoff-, will have to pay USD$ 6.7 million.
