As recently reported by local media, the Colombian Patent Office (SIC) granted 1,384 patents in 2018 for residents and non-residents. This amount represents a 6.6% increase compared to 2017 when 1,298 patents were granted.
The cities with the most filings as of April were Bogotá (35), Medellín (15), Bucaramanga and Cali (6 each), and Barranquilla (5).
The report highlights the participation of universities including the Universidad Nacional, Universidad EAFIT, Universidad de Antioquia, Universidad de Medellín, and Universidad Militar Nueva Granada.
