Buildings must comply with Data Protection
May 16 2019

Once again, the Colombian Data Protection Authority (SIC) reminds buildings and condominiums they must comply with Data Protection rules, due to the fact that they are considered an independent legal entity, different from its co-owners and inhabitants.

Hence, buildings and condominiums will have to request of co-owners a prior and written authorization to collect biometric data using security cameras, or to save any other personal data, along with other requirements.

Otherwise, co-owners may be subject to a sanction of about COP 78,000,000, like the one imposed last 2 May 2019 to a building in Bogota for non-compliance.
