Argentina and Chile: The benefits of the Chile-Argentina free trade agreement

31 January, 2019

Chile and Argentina have formalized a Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Its implementation will allow greater participation of Argentina with the Pacific Alliance. Additionally, it will benefit exporters in streamlining foreign trade procedures, elimination of trade barriers for agricultural and manufactured products and the reduction of transaction costs.

Among the new developments of the FTA to highlight are the new rules for the e-commerce and telecommunications. The agreement has provisions that tend to eliminate national origin discrimination between digital products to encourage competition. Furthermore, the Free Trade Agreement eliminates mobile roaming fees between Chile and Argentina, making mobile providers charge the same fees in both markets.
